Tower Crane Parts
Tower cranes allow the construction industry to make various incredible structures. These cranes have been used to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes offer the means to transport and raise tools, building parts and materials around a construction site. There are a few different parts that assemble a tower crane when they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machinery.
Base
The tower crane base is normally made from a steel unit. The base of the unit attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This kind of set-up gives the structure stability. Overall, the construction needs to be well engineered and built in order to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The tower crane's mast provides the equipment with its overall height. The mast is built out of individual steel parts which are attached together. The amount of parts determines the height of the crane. Typically, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further sections as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane can be specified, making certain that it has enough height to safely and efficiently carry out the required work.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is located above the mast. This unit houses the machines and the motor that allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machine that allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber enable the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
"Boom" is a term which particularly refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made of steel parts attached together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the bottom which could extend the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting mechanism.
