The forklift is a material handling machinery used to raise and transport loads from one place to another. Every component of a forklift has a particular function. Various parts can be utilized to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The parts utilized to lift and lower the load is referred to as the forklift mast. There are various types of masts used for lifting loads to different heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is situated within the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.

Cab
Positioned within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located in the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights located at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
