Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces like concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both diagonally and vertically. This particular model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled equipment. These equipment provide a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
