History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was originally founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the succeeding years.
